4 Steps to Becoming a Viking

There are two words in the English language that frequently get misunderstood, simple and easy. For our purposes simple means being straightforward, and easy means being achievable without great effort. Becoming a Viking is simple, but by no means easy, and in a world where people strive for ‘good enough’ not everyone will be cut out to rule the high seas. If you are one of the brave souls who desires a life directed by their own will, then this guide is for you.

1) Show up

You can’t conquer if you can’t make it to the battlefield.

This first rule was instilled in my head by strength coach extraordinaire, Dan John. He says that the secret to success is to simply show up, and here at VSS we stand by that. You can’t get better if you don’t show up to training or practice, and you sure as hell can’t leave with a gold medal if you don’t show up to compete. As coaches, we can motivate but not force you to show up – you have to take this first step on your own.

2) Follow the Plan

Here is where you need to take it a bit further.

Showing up to battle means you are ready to fight, but you can’t just run around swinging your axe like a madman and expect to win. All plans aren’t created equal, and having an intelligent plan for success is what is going to give you the upper hand in laying waste to the competition and your goals. We work hard to make sure the plans for our clients not only lead them to their goals, but that the path to get there is something that they can realistically follow. If they start to stray, our clients know we have their back and we can help them stay focused on what matters most.

 3) Work Hard

This is where the divide between easy and simple is really apparent and it is also where results begin.

You showed up to battle and you have a plan for success, but that axe won’t swing itself and your enemies won’t bow before a weak opponent. It’s time to do some good old-fashioned hard work to reign victorious, and this won’t be easy. Training for your goals is no different, and if you don’t push your limits, you won’t make any appreciable progress. Our clients understand the value of working hard and they see the results their efforts bring.

 4) Don’t Quit

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and the Viking Empire wasn’t established after a single battle and the best in the world wouldn’t be there if they didn’t persevere.

It may be surprising to some, but hard work is hard, and continuously working hard for your goal is even harder. You will be challenged and you may falter, but do not make the mistake of quitting. This is your journey, and you are doing it for no one other than yourself. We always motivate our clients to be their very best and they express that when they refuse to quit regardless of the obstacles on the way. This is the hardest part of the journey. It is what separates the Vikings from the peasants. This is the step incredible accomplishments come from. As we said, becoming a Viking is simple, but it isn’t easy. Acknowledge the challenge and take the first step towards your goals.

Show up, follow the plan, work hard and don’t quit and you will become a Viking.
